WHAT
IS DESIGN
THINKING?
I have used design thinking as a foundation for all my work, and it has proved to be a powerful problem-solving tool for encouraging outside-the-box thinking and finding the right questions to ask. It is often associated with UX and product designers but practised by many other industries, CEOs, managers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
With collaborative brainstorming an integral part, design thinking sparks many creative solutions during the ideation phase and encourages wacky or non-traditional concepts. The goal is to identify and solve existing problems and offer possible solutions to implement the best strategy and effective goal-setting.
However, it is also easy for the concept creator to become disconnected from the customers, who fail to engage with the new product or service. I have seen many business concepts fail in this way.
Design thinking keeps users at the forefront by regularly listening to their wants and needs and implementing feedback and test results. Focusing on the user lessens the risk of your product or business failing, and you'll bring more significant changes to the world around you.

My greatest strength is understanding the challenges or pain points and being able to construct a solution and communicate those ideas effectively through working drawings, prototypes and various 2D & 3D mediums.

My grandmother used to say, …"If you're going to be stuck on an island, then you want ‘Matti’ on the island with you."
Of course, she may have just wanted to send me to the most far-flung place on the planet, but the version I prefer, is that my grandmother understood my ability to problem-solve and build practical solutions.
I grew up as a third-culture kid, and this extensive travel instilled a global awareness, humility, empathy, and a genuine understanding of personal biases.
These life skills, as well as an intrinsic naive curiosity and the never-ending pursuit of knowledge, have given me a solid foundation as a designer.
More recently I moved to North Wales to follow my long passion for outdoor activities and adventure, and looking forward to finding new opportunities for collaborations.

I have long advocated remote collaboration and frequently use Google, Microsoft, Zoom, Slack and Miro, to name a few. However, I work closely with a team or client to find the best method to help the experience and best efficiency.
